With the project social cohesion for sustainable peace Baitna Center for Women and Child Development (BCWCD) will contributes to sustainable peace in Sudan during the ongoing conflict by empowering women and youth as powerful peace builders .The project is partially sponsored by Action in Resilience and Empowerment foundation, Delft , the Netherlands .
Al Gedarif state is considered one of the safe states where no fighting is taking place. states hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Khartoum, Darfur and other war-affected states (the largest of the IDPs are women and girls). Some are confined within the local engines and some live in IDP shelters and points where most IDPs reside. Women and children in the state face marginalization, poverty and human rights violations, and women are at risk of intimate and gender-based violence.
Specific objectives of the project are:
– To build women and youth’s understanding of peace and peaceful coexistence and become advocates of peace
– Help build peaceful coexistence between the host community and the internally migrant population.
– to advance the WPS agenda in Sudan to ensure women participate and lead the robust peace processes, as engaging women will bring long-lasting peace, sustainable and security
Project activities
The project trained and organized dialogue sessions for displaced women, youth and members of private organizations, their staff and women from the host community in peace, peaceful coexistence to provide participants with basic knowledge on peace and peaceful coexistence and a culture of peace, hate speech as well as methods of conflict resolution.
The project also supports women’s psychological health and rights in its activities. In collaboration with displaced persons and members of host communities, the project sets up local initiatives that help promote peaceful coexistence, such as the Women’s Peace Committee. These include cultural events, painting workshops for children and young people.
